Caps @ Wild 10-12-2006 Wrap Up

The Local Yokels:

(Com)Post. Caps.com. Dave Fay must really be upset about last night's game because there's nothing from the Times this morning.

The Neutral Observers:

NHL.com AP wire.

The Other Side:

Minneapolis Star-Tribune: Wild go to 4-0, memories of Turin (A.O. should play in more NHL cities) 4-0 isn't perfection. Wild.com.

Final Thoughts:

Heading into this season the Caps made their stated goals rather clear. First and foremost they wanted to make the playoffs and they also would not be happy with just playing a solid game, they wanted to win games this season. While last night was a better effort than one week ago in MSG, the Caps did not play well enough to win. Again, Brent Johnson played a great game but a good portion of the team never recovered from their second period funk. This is the third time in as many games that the Caps came unglued in the second period. That needs to be fixed. The Caps also need to stop taking stupid penalties. Both of Dainius Zubrus' penalties were committed at the Minnesota blueline. It would be one thing if Zoobie-doobie-doo was trying to stop an odd man rush, but in both instances, he wasn't. While the penalty killing improved as the game went on, it prevented the Caps from getting any offensive flow going from having to kill 10 Wild Power Plays. While you can see the improvement from last week and last season, there is still a long way to go for the Caps. 3 down, 79 left to go.
