Caps @ Flames 10-30-2006 Preview

Washington Capitals (3-7; 10 points) @ Calgary Flames (3-6; 7 points):

Pengrowth Saddledome, Calgary, Alberta, Canada. 9:05 pm. Washington TV: Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic. Radio: WTEM 980-AM. Calgary TV: Rogers Sportsnet West. Radio: The Fan 960-AM. NHL Center Ice: Rogers Sportsnet West feed.
Caps Game #11, Road Game #7, NHL Game #165.

Tonight the Caps bring their four games in six nights western road trip to a merciful end in Calgary. This is the Caps last game outside of the Eastern Time zone this season as they are coming off of back-to-back losses where they played some of their poorest hockey yet this season. The Flames are also coming off a loss on Saturday night after they dropped a 3-2 game to the Nashville Predators at the Saddledome. This is another place where the Caps have had trouble winning in recent years when Ken Klee doesn't take out Jarome Iginla in the second period. The Caps had yesterday off and I hope that they had better hotel rooms than I did when I was there three years ago buying my cowboy boots and mastering the mechanical bull better than Limey did.

I'm sorry, I went off on a tangent again, here's the rest of the preview...

What Do I Expect Tonight?:

After having yesterday off after not expending much energy Friday or Saturday night, the Caps should have enough in the tank to get by the Flames. The problem for the Caps is that they struggle big time against defensive minded teams and good goaltenders, both of which the Flames have right now. The Flames don't open things up very much so expect a low scoring game. The only good news for the Caps is that the Flames have been struggling overall so far this season. Though all too much in the past, the Caps have been the perfect tonic for those types of teams.
