Final Thoughts:

It's easy to equivocate this loss by blaming the injuries to Captain Chris Clark, Alexander Semin, and Tom Poti, defensive breakdowns, or bad bounces and lament missed opportunities. The problem last night however was a lack of discipline. It is all kinds of wrong to blow an impending Power Play because you took a retaliatory penalty on a night when the referees weren't interested in calling penalties. I know I constantly pick on the Caps Power Play but for two minutes, the other team is at a disadvantage and if nothing else, the Caps can take two minutes off the clock. Had the Caps shown more discipline, they would have gotten out of that game last night with a win. They would be back to a game under .500 and feeling much better about themselves. Instead they got away with what was clearly working for them and ended up losing. It doesn't matter what sport you are playing, undisciplined teams do not go very far.

13 down, 69 to go.
