Final Thoughts:

The tagline for the 1998 movie The Truman Show was "How is it going to end?"  And that's what we're thinking about the Caps eight game winning streak.  How is it going to end?  We don't want to be a nattering nabob of negativism here but we don't think the Caps are going to put together a 53 game winning streak to finish off the season and playoffs.  Our real concern though is are the Caps peaking too soon?  When the Caps used to get on these kinds of streaks in the 1980's, they needed them to get into playoff contention after a slow start to the season.  That's not the case now as the Caps are making a serious run at the President's Trophy, something never won by this franchise.  We were a little concerned about taking 13 shots on goal before the game was 8 minutes old, 19 in the first period, 35 through two periods, and yet having only one goal to show for it.  Alexander "Slappy" Semin was pulling his old Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde act during the game last night.  Yes he came away with another two goals but there were multiple shifts and instances where he was just a spectator barely gliding around on the ice.  Captain A.O. completely undressed Scott Niedermayer to set up Mike Knuble.  Captain A.O. only needs to average 2 points over the last 29 games to catch Mike Ridley for 6th on the Caps All-Time Scoring list.  Seven more points and he hits 500 for his career.  How does Tom Poti get a four minute minor for roughing?  So much for his Lady Byng candidacy...

53 down, 29 to go.
