Let's Not Get Ahead of Ourselves Here
Come on, it's ok. You can admit it. You felt a mixture of Schadenfreude and hope when you saw that Darrien Hatcher and R.J. Umberger will miss the remainder of the regular season due to injuries. You thought "Our playoff push just got a little easier and the path to the 8th seed a little clearer."
Am I the only one who remembers the CW that "Carolina is toast" after Rod Brind'Amour was lost to a torn ACL on February 15th? They've only gone 10-4 since then.
As a matter of fact, the folks in Pittsburgh are kicking around the idea of trading Canadian Diving Team Captain, Secondary Assist Cindy Crosby. Why? The Penguin Scum play better without her.
So before you start making plans for the second and third weeks of April (and check the Verizon Center schedule to see if Dishonest Abe has scheduled any useless High School Basketball All-Star games to gum things up) just remember, the Flyers defense actually becomes more mobile with the loss of Hatcher and actually improves in some cases.
I'm not saying the Flyers are going to run the table here, but the odds are very good that they'll hold onto the 8th spot. And if the Flyers don't we still have to find a way to get past the Buffaslugs and the Panthers to win the 8th seed. We have two games against Florida including our season finale on home ice. But we're done with the Buffaslugs for this season and will need help from other teams to pull it off.
